Autotest Freestyle Build

Part 2

Two positive steps forward for the Freestyle build - first the front suspension, the standard rocker/inboard coil-over arrangement uses a modified Mini top arm with a rear Mini shock absorber. The coil spring is

located between a plate and the rocker arm, and as such the ride height of the car will be fixed. For the autotester, the MITP trade stands provided a pair of rear GAZ adjustable coil-overs, a pair of adjustable lower arms and a pair of adjustable tie-rods. The spring support plate will go

allowing all aspects of the front suspension to be adjusted.

The second area of interest is the pedal arrangement, the existing mechanism is floor mounted and uses a couple of rods to link the

pedals to the master cylinders located in the passenger footwell. Dave Smart has now developed a new pedalbox that suspends the pedals from above, a much neater arrangement. Dave built this into the new Freestyle

that he drove to the IMM 2006 in Poland. For the autotester, we want twin brake master cylinders with a balance bar so a wider version of the new pedalbox will be used.
