Wow - what a big gap since the last edition of The Register, they say that time passes quickly when you are enjoying yourself, well it is not so slow for the less pleasurable as well. Thanks for all the enquires as to what has happened, hopefully we are back on track and can continue with our 40th year as a club. We are very pleased to be involved with Mini in the Park, this year as well as our usual club stand we will be working with the Warwickshire Drivers Motor Club to organise the autotest (well autosolo actually) - more details below. This edition should contain details of all the members who have joined since the last edition along with your updates. If not then I do apologise and would ask you to send the details again. |

Jack has sent in this photo of his very colourful Yak, his wife reckons that "the Yak looks as though the Circus as come to town !". Jim Biscoe, Bolton, Ontario, Canada
Jim is reaping the benefit of his careful restoration and is now enjoying the use of his 1071 S, this was taken at the Annual Ancaster British part flea market. Jim is still on the look out for a correct Mk I sump guard for a 1964 Cooper S Rabawi Rahim, Terengganu, MalaysiaYou may remember the photos that Awie sent of his very smart 1275GT, well not long after, disaster struck, on a trip from Kuala Terengganu to Kubang Kerian at night he and his wife came across a number of cows that decided to cross the road in front of them.
Heavy braking avoided the cows but the resultant skid ended when an electric mast got in the way. Luckily Awie and his wife were completely un-hurt but the poor GT is back in the workshop again. Awie has also spotted a number of Minis in need of rescuing in Pengkalan Chepa, Kelantan

Mini in the Park |
Every year, Mini in the Park has included an autotest that you can enter in your Mini, this year The Mini Register will be organising the event in conjunction with the Warwickshire Drivers Motor Club and the assistance of members of the BTRDA. The BTRDA run, amongst other things, the Demon Tweeks Autotest Championship and the Newcomer's Autosolo Challenge, both of which are national series. Warwickshire Drivers have been organising autotests for over 30 years, including rounds of the BTRDA championship, they have also organised rounds of the Newcomer's Autosolo Challenge since its inception. If you are not sure of the difference between an autotest and an autosolo, they are both tests of driving skill and precision and involve following a route around traffic cones. Autotests include the requirement to stop astride lines and reverse whereas and autosolos route is all forwards. As a consequence, autosolos put less strain on the car's transmission. Over the years, autotest cars have become very specialised but autosolo cars must be driven to the event and have a valid MOT which makes this type of event far more suitable for your daily driver. For Mini in the Park, we will be running an autosolo that all visitors to the show may enter in their Minis, we will also have a number of the top autotesters in the country performing demonstration autotests during the day. So - if you would like to display your Mini on the Mini Register stand and/or help with the running of the autosolo, please get in touch. |

The turbo engine modifications push the output from the standard 173bhp to 226bhp (the JCW conversion provides 208bhp) and to perfect the upgrade to the suspension, they enlisted Touring Car driver Manfred Wollgarten to thrash the car around the North Loop of the Nürburgring, the result is a pack that includes replacement springs, a front suspension strut brace, adjustable suspension and a limited slip diff, with this arrangement, the car runs 25-30mm lower than standard

Tech Tip - Silicone Brake Fluid |
I saw this on the Edinburgh MG Club's website, I think that the brake switches on these cars is the same as used on the early Minis . For all of you with MG's that have pressure type brake light switches (MGA's and MGB's/Midgets with single circuit brakes) - DO NOT use silicon (DOT 5) brake fluid in these systems, unless you want to replace your brake light switch every three months or so. Although none of the recent debates on silicon fluid seem to mention this, I have had three brake light switches fail on two different cars, both using silicon fluid. It appears that the silicon fluid acts as an insulator and prevents the switches from making contact. The solution? Stick with DOT 4 fluid and change it yearly, or put in a mechanical type switch on the brake pedal |
